2008 was a busy year both at home and work. One thing I am glad I was able to accomplish though is passing three Microsoft exams:

70-630 – Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring

70-631 – Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Configuring

MB2-631 – Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Customization and Configuration

If you use SharePoint all the time you won’t even need to study for these (except for any areas that you may not use like Excel Services). For the CRM exam you can find a great training guide (thanks Curtin!) on CustomerSource that gives you the details of what to study.

Now as 2009 starts to roll on I am thinking the two developer exams for SharePoint will be next…

Wyoming is the least populated state so it makes sense, but I still figured at least one person would of stumbled on to it.

Lately, after reading the Pragmatic Programmer, I have tried to follow the DRY principle whenever I can. One thing that I have to do every so often is clean up log files that are X many days old. Today when I had to do that again I found this bit of command-line goodness to solve that issue on Scott Elkin’s blog:

Forfiles -p c:\path\to\backups -s -m *.* -d -5 -c "cmd /c del /q @path"

This will delete all files older than 5 days in that path. You have several options with the flags if you want to delete other time periods. Also, check out Scott’s post for details on how to display what files will be delete so you can make sure you don’t delete last nights backup. One thing to note is that you have to run this on a 2003 box as XP does not support the ForFiles command.

I thought with a hello world post that you are suppose to post some simple code, but I guess that doesn’t apply here. My full-time (and somes more than full-time!) job is working as a SharePoint <strike>Administrator</strike> Developer. I wanted to start a blog about a year ago as I was working on our SharePoint Portal Server 2003 rollout, but I guess time wasn’t on my side. However, now that I am working on our 2007 upgrade, I think now is the time so hopefully I can add to an already great and strong SharePoint community. Besides SharePoint, I am working on some ASP.NET projects, started working on a couple CRM implementations, and lastly I have always had an interest in open source technologies and scripting languagues (like Perl, Ruby and PHP), so I always have some projects working around these just to learn some new things. So this blog will be a combination of a lot of things and hopefully someone out there will find use in some of it.

Outside of the geek word, my wife and I are new parents as of May. Almost six months now and I can’t believe how much he has changed! So each day after getting to work on things I love to do, I get to go home and smile even more seeing them!
